Allen Neighborhood Center
Allen Neighborhood Center (ANC) is a non-profit organization that serves as a dynamic hub where Lansing Eastside neighbors access resources to improve their wellbeing, job opportunities, and create a strong sense of belonging to build a safe, sustainable, and thriving neighborhood.
Goals
The primary goal of this redesign was to transform a decade-old website into a modern, accessible, and community-centered digital hub. The organization needed a platform that:
- Clearly communicates food access programs, events, and neighborhood resources for diverse users
- Strengthens organization’s brand identity through consistent visuals and messaging
- Supports staff with an easy-to-maintain CMS
- Integrates e-commerce tools for subscription programs
Layout and Accessibility
The site structure prioritizes clarity, readability, and inclusive design. Key improvements include:
- A reorganized navigation system that reduces cognitive load and helps users quickly find programs, events, and services
- A clean, modular layout with consistent spacing, headings, and visual hierarchy
- ADA-conscious design choices such as high-contrast color palettes, alt text for all images, and keyboard-friendly interactions
- Engaging visuals paired with plain, accessible language to ensure information is understandable for all reading levels
Content Management System
To support a small team with varying technical experience, I built a CMS structure that is intuitive, scalable, and easy to maintain:
- Created reusable templates for program pages, events, and announcements
- Developed a content workflow that allows staff to update pages without breaking layout or accessibility standards
- Trained staff on Wix, CMS editing, and publishing best practices
- Documented a brand and content style guide to ensure consistency across future updates
Wix Store
To support the Veggie Box subscription program, I integrated Wix Store into the site:
- Set up product listings for Veggie Box and add-ons items
- Photographed and sourced for product images
- Designed product cards and category layouts that align with the organization’s brand
- Configured checkout, inventory, and automated email notifications
- Ensured the store experience remained accessible and mobile-friendly
