Project Overview
NTUC My First Skool is a pre-school in Singapore that is seeking to develop a playscape for their students to play and explore in nature during school hours.
Goals
My team’s goal was to connect children with the intangible form of nature – light. By utilizing the play of reflection, shadow and colors, we magnified the interaction with light, creating a sense of magical wonder when children enter the playscape.
My role in the team involved developing ideas and the models and renders on Rhino 5, Grasshopper, and Keyshot.
Playscape
By combining light and the anatomy of a creature in a single form of a scale, we unified the whole structure to create Creature. The creation of imaginative play through the ambiguity of a creature allows children to interpret and explore endless possibilities.
The structure is modular, allowing different arrangements depending on the landscape which creates an ever-changing playscape.

Children connect with light by playing with reflection, shadow and colors through the dichroic scales.

Creature encourages a variety of activities to develop the motor skills needed to enrich a child’s growth as they play with the nature.

At night, the mysterious glow emitted prompts children’s curiosity to interact with nature beyond daylight.
